Everything Old Is New Again With Slip Covers

My sister-in-law is a yards ale fool. She'll get herself up as early as 5:30AM on a Saturday morning to join her sisters at yard sales. I wasn't sure about her last big purchase until I saw the slip covers for chairs she purchased to update the furniture she bought.
She had purchased an old dining room table and six chairs. The table was wreck, it definitely needed refinishing, which I knew she could do. The dining room chairs were another matter. They didn't only show their age because of their aqua and green upholstered seats the upholstery was well worn. She really had gotten the set for a great price, and refinishing would be more labor than cost, but I figured the chairs would take any savings she thought she'd made. Boy, was I wrong.
The chic dining chair covers she found fit the chairs perfectly, looked great and she actually saved 10% when she bought them. The dining chair slip covers that my sister-in-law chose were an elegant damask fabric that's 60% cotton and 40% polyester. The perfect slip covers for a busy family. They go into the washer and dryer and come out perfectly. These beautiful damask slip covers have a pleat and a bow that ties in the back.
She was also able to buy herself a second set of dining chair slip covers. She chose a modern stretch pique fabric that gives her chairs an amazing clean, fitted modern look. She can have two totally different looks using these slip covers.
Actually she got me thinking about how I could use slip covers for chairs in my own home. When I looked online I saw lots of different types of slip covers. You can buy standard slip covers or even have them custom made.
I'd been wanting to update my own family room but I didn't want to spent a lot of money. I was amazed that they even make recliner slip covers. I found a beautiful stretch velour recliner cover. It's a stretch recliner that fits my husband's favorite recliner literally like a glove. I was able to find a matching sofa slip cover. This simple change totally made over my family room. The best part was that it was inexpensive. I would never have been able to have afforded to have my recliner and my sofa reupholstered. Using slip covers was the perfect way to give this sturdy but well worn furniture as second life. I think my sister-in-law is on to something!
